Lion Dance

The Lion dance is a traditional Asian art form that originated in China and dates back 5000 years. So even though the costume may look like a dragon, it is actually a lion. Performers mimic a lion's movements to tell a story and bring good luck and fortune to the audience. The Lion dance is an important ritual in Chinese tradition believed to drive away evil spirits on auspicious occasions.  I love watching the lion dance performances and try to catch a performance every year. This year I was extra lucky because not only was I able to see a lion dance performance, but I was even able to try on the head of the lion costume. The Lion Dance performance by the Philadelphia Suns was amazing. Not only are they extremely talented, but they were also so kind in teaching me more about the Lion Dance costume and tradition.
